Google Flow Storyboard Studio alternative

Flow makes the frames. StoryboardAI makes the board your client signs.

We tested Google Flow’s Storyboard Studio: free, quick and good-looking frames. What it doesn’t do is the part after — sending the board to a client, getting each shot approved, fixing the ones they flag, and handing it off as a PDF. That is what StoryboardAI is for.

A StoryboardAI frame: two saved characters at a lantern-lit table
└ Two saved characters, the same in every shot
The core difference

Both make AI frames from a script. Flow stops at the frames. StoryboardAI adds client approval, one-click fixes and a board you can hand off.

Head to head

StoryboardAI vs Google Flow Storyboard Studio

Tested hands-on on October 17, 2026, with the same kind of script we use for our own tests. Flow’s frames are genuinely good — here is where the two differ.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

What is Google Flow’s Storyboard Studio?+

A tool inside Google Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking app. You write or paste a script, it makes character, location and prop sheets, then fills each scene with frames. People often reach it as a shared “Remix of Storyboard Studio” link.

Is Google Flow’s Storyboard Studio free?+

In our test on a free Google account (October 2026), making the assets and a 6-frame scene used none of the account’s 50 daily Flow credits. Google’s plans and limits change, so check Flow before you rely on it. StoryboardAI starts with 50 free credits and then sells packs once, from $3.

How good are Flow’s storyboard frames?+

Good. In our test the faces and costumes stayed the same across all six frames, and the shots varied like a real storyboard. Like every AI tool it still slipped: one frame flipped the room around, and another drew an arm with no hand. That is why a review step matters before a board goes to production.

Can I share a Flow storyboard with a client for approval?+

We found no share-for-review, comments or approval step in the Storyboard Studio tool. StoryboardAI is built around that step: one link, the client marks each shot approved or needs changes, and you apply their note to that shot in one click.

Can I export a Flow storyboard as a PDF?+

The tool’s menu offers Save, Open and Clear Story; we found no PDF or shot-list export. StoryboardAI exports a PDF board, the images, an animatic, and FCPXML / EDL timelines for your editor.

Should I use Flow or StoryboardAI?+

Use Flow to explore ideas and make free frames for yourself. Use StoryboardAI when the board goes to someone else — a client, a director, a crew — and needs to be reviewed, fixed shot by shot and handed off as a PDF or timeline.
